scanning identification documents

Hi, I hope this is posted to the right board. I may have to scan ID documents like social security, ID, and Medicaid cards for work and route them to a contact that is out of office. What would be the best way to scan them, read them, and send them off. I've never had to handle smaller documents like these. I could probably use my regular scanner for the larger stuff like birth certificates. Also, what format could I send these documents in? I would be willing to spring for a KNFB reader for my phone if this might be a good option. Any advice would be very much appreciated.

You can usually save them in JPEG, PDF, PNG file formats. If you have a scanner, that should usually be sufficient and they will probably accept them if you scan them all onto one sheet.

I have to ask this, are you needing to OCR the documents before sending them to
your contact? If your running with windows10 KNFB read along with a camera will
work. Ya KNFB read for your phone will work as well.

We're on Windows 7 at work. I would probably need to OCR them before sending them off. I don't have my exact duties, so am not sure how much documentation I will need to gather. I have never used the KNFB reader, but would be willing tolearn if that is a viable option.

Just hope your work has a really secure network sending out all this personal documentation

I totally agree. If I knew my documents were being scanned then emailed or something, I'd refuse.
They'd need to be emailed securely, but that isn't your problem.
I wonder if you could get the I T person to upgrade only the computer you use to Windows 10? If so, the options above Windows 10 KNFB reader is free and an excellent option, or now Microsoft Lens for your phone.
